Necaxa Completes The Comeback Victory Over Xolos

Necaxa and Tijuana provided a thrilling game in Aguascalientes that saw Los Rayos mount an amazing 3-2 comeback victory. Necaxa was coming off a 1-1 draw against los Diablos Rojos de Toluca and Tijuana came into this game off a lastminute 3-2 win at home against Cruz Azul.

The first half of the match provided fans from both sides major excitement as both teams provided us a total of three goals before the half ended.

It was the home team of Los Rayos that broke through first. In just the 6th minute of play, off a corner kick, Rodrigo Noya headered the ball towards the back post and found Rayos captain Ventura Alvarado who just pushed the ball through the net giving Necaxa the 1-0 lead.

The team from the northern border did not wait long to respond, as just three minutes later in the 9th minute, Vladamir Loroña sent a beautiful curving shot from just outside the 18-yard box that bent back and grazed the goal post and went into the net equalizing the game at 1-1.

In the 29th minute of play Tijuana was able to turn the tables on Necaxa and take the lead after catching the Rayos defenders off guard on a counter-attack. Aldo Cruz sent a hard through ball into the box looking for one of his forwards to just tap the ball into the net and he was able to find a sliding Ignacio Rivero giving Tijuana the 2-1 lead.

In the 32nd minute of play, Los Rayos seemed to have equalized the game once again via a corner kick set piece as Mauro Quiroga was able to head the ball into the net. Unfortunately for the team from Aguascalientes, after VAR review, the referee deemed the goal disallowed as he found Quiroga to be pushing off a defender inside the box, and Xolos would keep the 2-1 lead into the half.

In the 2nd half Los Rayos were firing on all cylinders as just 8 minutes into the half, Juan Delgado cut through the defense and sent a canon like shot that hit the crossbar only to then find the feet of Maxi Salas who sent the ball into the net. Just like that Necaxa was able to tie to game 2-2.

Memo Vasquez seemed more relaxed in the 2nd half and their confidence was growing after their 2nd goal; they were looking for the full comeback win. In the 78th minute, Los Rayos got their winning goal as Cristian Calderon sent a cross into the box that found Quiroga who, between three Xolos defenders, was able to elevate just enough to head a floating ball into the net, catching Xolos goalkeeper Lajud off guard.

With this goal, Los Rayos would complete the full comeback. Necaxa now moves up to 14 points after picking up 10 points in the last 4 weeks and will see if they can keep this momentum after the international break. Los Xolos will look to regroup during the break and try to find some consistency as they have been unable to win back to back games this season thus far.
