Chivas take the win at home over a confident Queretaro

Chivas and Queretaro faced each other Saturday night for round 18 of Liga MX. A match in which the hosts, Chivas, came out on top 3-2 with chances of still able to play for the Apertura 2019 championship.

The first goal came at minute 22 by Alexis Vega. He controlled the ball with his chest and passed the ball over a Queretaro defender. With a spot already in playoffs, Queretaro seemed unworried causing the local team to take advantage.

In the 36th minute, an assist from Isaac Brizuela gave Javier Lopez the opportunity to shoot into the net, giving “El Rebano” the second goal of the night.

Vucetich’s team was not too impressive in attack even though they had more shots on goal. However, that wasn’t enough to put them ahead of the home team. Chivas scored their third go in the 41st minute thanks to Alan Pulido, putting his team with a 3-0 lead on the scoreboard before halftime.

Queretaro turned the game around in the last few minutes of the second with goals from Jeison Lucumi in the 95th and 102nd minute. Lucumi’s second goal was a penalty that was checked during VAR after Queretaro players complained about a handball from a Chivas defender.

The two goals from ‘Gallos Blancos’ wasn’t enough and lost 3-2, giving Chivas hope in qualifying for playoffs. Chivas will need to win against Veracruz in the last round of the season and wait for the results of other teams looking to find a place to fight for the cup.
