AFC Ajax Remains on Top of The Eredivisie League With a Dominant 4-1 Victory

Edson Álvarez and his AFC Ajax played host to Heerenveen in the Amsterdam Arena for a night of Eredivisie League play. Álvarez played 80 minutes of the match and contributed on every play. Ajax remains on top of the league with 16 points after tonights 4-1 win.

Ajax controlled the match by leading in every statistic category: shots on target, possession, passes, and corners. Heerenveen had a few sparks throughout the match but not enough to hold off “The Lancers” charge. Ajax connected on three set-plays, two coming off corner kicks. Edson had an opportunity to net one off a header in the 20th minute but was quickly rejected by Heerenveen’s goalkeeper in the last minute.

Heerenveen’s only score came off a counter-attack in the 22nd minute for the equalizer at the time. After that, they were quickly silenced and could not come back after “de Godenzonen” (the Sons of the Gods) gained momentum.

After the match, two Mexican fans received an unexpected gift from Edson Álvarez. A nice touch from the Mexcian National Team player.
