America Overpowers Veracruz To The Tune of 5-0
America plays its final game of the regular season and hands Veracruz a 5-0 beatdown. Las Aguilas overpowered Los Tiburones with
Las Aguilas came into this game still fighting for a playoff spot in the very competitive Liga MX standings that is nearing its final two weeks. On the contrary Veracruz was trying to gain percentage points in their fight to stay in the first division league.
America was dominant from beginning to end and in a span of nine minutes was able to pretty much secure the three points. The first goal came in the 19th minute off a corner kick in which Sebastian Jurado came out of his goal and missed punching the ball in the air. The ball then bounced off an America player in the box and landed at the feet of Bruno Valdez who was able to just push the ball into the net.
Not even a few minutes later after the terrible mistake by Jurado, America kicked down the door again this time off a beautiful two man counter attack by Nicolas Castillo and Henry Martin that leaves Castillo in front of Jurado and he just chips it over the sliding goalkeeper for the 2-0 lead.
Martin wanted in on the fun and in the 28th minute took two Tiburones defenders and shot the ball past the outstretched arms of Jurado for the 3-0 lead and his first of the game. Las Aguilar would take the 3-0 lead into the half.
Martin was just heating up and in the 54th minute, the two America forwards connected on a beautiful two man passing display inside the box and this time Castillo rewarded Martin with an easy path to goal and Martin taps the ball in for his second of the night and the 4-0 lead.
The final nail in the coffin was placed by non-other than Henry Martin in the 80th minute receiving a pass from Roger Martinez that leaves him with a one-on-one opportunity against Jurado and Martin once against beats the Veracruz goalkeeper for his hat-trick of the night and the final 5-0 score.
Las Aguilas now end their regular Apertura 2019 season with 31 points and will have a bye week in the final week of league play, awaiting their final position in the standings. Veracruz on the other hand will face Chivas for the final week of Liga MX with a chance to gain some percentage points in the battle to avoid regulation.
