America show dominance over Tigres in the Azteca
America soared high in the Azteca after defeating Tigres in a dominating 3-0 matchup. Tigres with a high quality squad, were still unable to do much damage throughout the game. Without their star player, Andres Pierre Gignac, los Felinos have struggled on the offensive.
It didn’t take long for fans to see the goal hit the net in the first half. After a long cross by Renato Ibarra in the 5th minute, Bruno Valdes was able to header the ball but hitting the top post, only to bounce back to him and having him finish the play in the air. The goal was called offsides by linesman but was marked goal after a VAR review.
Tigres started fighting back with a few centers into the box. The closest chance came close for Enner Valencia in the penalty area but his header was inches over the goal, covering his face in shame knowing he missed the equalizer.
Javier Aquino become a danger a few times to Agustin Marchesin’s goal, as he blocked a long distance shot just outside the box. Nicolas Benedetti returned the favor for America by doing a similar play to Nahuel Guzman, but the ball barely passed by the left post.
In the second half, Las Aguilas had a free kick opportunity inside the arc of the box, where Emanuel Aguilera took clear advantage of it in the 69th minute. With a wall full of Felinos, Aguilera shot the ball under the barrier as everyone jumped, scoring the second goal of the match.
Tuca Ferreti’s team started disappearing on the field and could not find a way to reach their opponent’s goal area. Then, in the final two minutes of the game, Henry Martin passed the ball to Benedetti inside the box, where Benedetti hit a precise shot to the right post, ending the game with a 3-0 win.
