Carlos Vela and LAFC win the Supporter’s Shield
Carlos Vela and LAFC end a five-game winless streak after defeating Houston Dynamo, 3-1, winning their first Supporter’s Shield at the Banc of California Stadium.
In the 21st minute, Brian Rodriguez received a foul inside the box from Aljaz Struna, where the referee marked a penalty in favor of the LA team. Carlos Vela did the honors and opened the scoreboard with a precise penalty shot on the left side of the post.
Carlos Vela scored his 30th goal of the season, placing himself only two goals away from passing Josef Martinez’s MLS goal record.

The lead didn’t last long after an own goal from Tyler Miller in the 28th minute. As Eddie Segura tried to kick the ball out of the goal area during a corner kick, Segura’s ball bounced off Miller and into the goal, ending the first half, 1-1.
Diego Rossi headered in the ball for the 2-1 after the ball hit the crossbar during a rebound from a Dynamo defender in the 70th minute.

LAFC secured the victory thanks to Eduard Atuesta’s amazing freekick. Atuesta took a right shot and curved the ball towards Joe Willis’ post, passing around his hands.
