Carlos Vela becomes top Mexican scorer in MLS against Red Bulls
Another historic night occurred at the Banc of California Stadium. Besides LAFC winning 4-2 against the New York Red Bulls, Carlos Vela placed his name in the record books by becoming the top Mexican player with most goals in MLS.
Los Angeles FC went on the scoreboard first after a great header from Jordan Harvey in the 23rd minute. But the Black and Gold didn’t stop there. Latif Blessing extended their lead just two minutes later with his right foot inside the box with the help from Alejandro Gamarra from the right side.
The home team seemed to have it all under control but New York bounced back just a few minutes before the end of the first half.
In the 42nd minute, Cristian Casseres Jr took a low shot with his right foot, surprising the LAFC defense and goalkeeper, as the ball went on the left side of the goal.
Red Bulls equalized in the 45th minute with some bad luck for Tyler Miller. Brian White shot the ball on the left post, rebounding off Miller’s back and crossing the goal line.
History happened in the 61st minute as Carlos Vela scored LAFC’s third goal of the night and his 37th goal in the MLS. Vela became the Mexican player with the most goals in the league after breaking Erick “Cubo” Torres’ goal record at 36.
Vela broke another record after surpassing Sebastian Giovinco in assists in the league, with 38. In the 72nd minute, Vela took a center inside the box, where Eddie Segura connected with a header to secure the victory. LAFC continue their dominance in the Western Conference with a 16-point lead.
