Chicharito and Company fall 1-0 to Real Madrid at home.
A lone goal by Karim Benzema was enough for Real Madrid to defeat Chicharito and Sevilla 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Coming off an amazing 3-0 win in the Europa League midweek in which Chicharito scored an amazing free kick goal, Sevilla looked to use that momentum as they played host to the team from the capital, Real Madrid. Real Madrid was trying to climb to the top of the standings in the 5thweek of play with a win.
The first half of play saw Los Merengues pressuring the backline of Sevilla early on and created a few opportunities for goal but the backline of Sevilla stood their ground and any instance in which Real Madrid was able to get a shot passed the backline, Tomáš Vaclík was there to secure the post for Sevilla. Both teams could not break through in the first half which ended scoreless.
During the 2ndhalf of play Sevilla began to apply pressure to los merengues backline and were controlling possession of the ball a lot more. It surely looked as if the first team to break the tie in the second half were to be the home team.
Unfortunately for Sevilla, Real Madrid was able to strike first off a counter attack in which Danny Carvajal sent a cross into the box and found Karim Benzema who headed the ball into the net in the 64thminute to give Zinedine Zidane’s team the 1-0 lead.
In the 69thminute of play Chicharito Hernandez was brought onto the field. In his only clear goal opportunity Chicharito was able to put a foot on the ball from an Éver Banega cross that ended up in the back of the net for Sevilla’s game tying goal but unfortunately for Chicharito and Sevilla he was ruled off sides and the goal was disallowed.
Sevilla tried to create opportunities but a lot of their crosses into the box were not on target and were not able to come out a late game tying goal. The goal from Karim Benzema was enough to get the 1-0 victory for Real Madrid and move them into 1stplace.
