Chivas continues to sink as the fan base begin to fear the worst!
Guadalajara’s downward spiral continued as they lost at home to Lobos BUAP 1-0, in a game that pitted two teams at the bottom of the table and in desperate need of the win. Chivas were hoping the appointment of a new shepherd would change their luck as interim coach Alberto Coyote took over after Jose Saturnino Cardozo was relieved of his duties. Paco Palencia’s men were also looking to get back in the win column after a 4-0 loss to Puebla at home.
Fans are losing faith
Las Chivas Rayadas came out looking to get on the scoreboard quickly and came close in the eighth minute. Alejandro Mayorga took a thru ball from “El Conejito” Isaac Brizuela inside the box, dribbled to the goal box and crossed a pass that found no one to tap it in. Things got more difficult for el Chiverio as they lost their captain Jair Pereira in the 10th minute due to injury. Even with the loss of their captain, El Rebano had a golden opportunity in the 16th minute. Alexis Vega picked up a pass passed midfield, cut to the right of Francisco “El Maza” Rodriguez, and took a right footed shot from the right side of the box that missed just right of the far post.
The Video Assistant Referee once again made an appearance in Liga MX in the 44th minute. Vega was charged with a hard foul against Joaquin Esquivel and given a yellow card, but after the VAR review, Vega got sent away with a red card for violently cleating Esquivel.
Lobos BUAP almost took advantage of the ten men Rojiblancos in the 58th minute of the game. Aldo Cruz kicked a curling ball from the corner kick that hit the far post almost ending in an Olympic goal. The team from Puebla finally got on the board in the 80th minute. First-half substitute Mauro Lainez cut inside and crossed a ball that deflected off of Jesus Molina, but still found Michaell Chirinos, who merely tapped a header to the left of Miguel Jimenez who could do nothing.
The game left a sour taste in the mouths of the Chivas faithful who were looking for any sign of life from their team to cheer. El Rebaño will try to get their first win in Liga MX since February 16th, when they visit Monarcas Morelia next Saturday. Lobos BUAP will look to get closer to the final playoff position when they play host to the surging Tigres team the next day.
