Copa por Mexico – Day 4 Preview
Cruz Azul v.s. Toluca
Cruz Azul will seek to maintain firmness in its steps through the Copa Mexico when they face Toluca. The football stoppage due to the Covid-19 pandemic seems not to have affected the play level for Cruz Azul, not even the coronavirus that infected six team members was able to do so. Robert Dante Siboldi’s squad showed the same power that they had demonstrated during Clausura 2020 with youth players included in the teas. Siboldi’s side presentation at the tournament saw them route Pumas by a forceful 4-1.
Toluca, led by manager Chepo De La Torre, is looking to bounce back after a 2-0 loss to Club America in its opening game. It appears that Toluca is going with young talent as players like Giovanny Léon and Christopher Englehart will get playing time. The match will kick off this Wednesday in Estadio Olimpico Universitario at 8:00 PM E.T.
Chivas v.s. Tigres
In the other match up, we have Chivas vs. Tigres. Guadalajara, led by Luis Fernando Tena, will seek to seal their passage to the semifinals of the pre-season tournament. The victory against Atlas gave them comfort, especially since at no time where they pressured by their rival. Tigres, from Nuevo León, could not defeat the debutant Mazatlán. They did not break the tie and left much to be desired. They left plenty of criticism towards Ricardo Ferretti, a technician who is in the eye of the hurricane for Tigres fans.
Both teams will likely play with their regular starters, as this served as an excellent warm-up match. Tigres will try to reign supreme in yet another tournament. Gignac, who is undoubtedly Tigres’ best player, will look to get in the score sheet for the first time this tournament. On paper, this looks like an intriguing match-up. For their part, Chivas wants to extend their opening day success, and victory over the team from the North, would be just what the fans need, The game is scheduled this Wednesday at 10:00 PM E.T. in Estadio Akron.
