Copa por México in jeopardy
Two Mazatlán F.C. players tested positive after their second game versus Atlas. The team announced via a press release late last night.
Mazatlán F.C. is set to take on Chivas in the third and final game of Group A of the Copa por México tournament. Both teams are in contention for a spot in the semifinals, but the organization overseeing the competition has yet to make a formal announcement. The game is scheduled to kick off at 8 pm E.T. at Estadio Akron, the home of Chivas de Guadalajara. It is unclear if other players contracted the virus, or if any other players from the opposing teams have been infected.
Club America and Cruz Azul will clash later that day in another edition of El Clasico Joven. La Maquina has already clinched a spot in the semifinals, and needs only a draw to claim the top spot of Group B.
A victory or a draw for La Aguilas will secure them a spot in the next stage of Copa por México, a defeat, however, could jeopardize those chances as they would have to wait for the result of the Pumas v.s. Toluca game on the following day.
