COVID Affects Liga MX Clausura 2022 Return
The Liga MX is finally back as the Grita Mexico Clausura 2022 began yesterday with the Pachuca vs San Luis match going the way of the Tuzos who got a 2-0 win to start the season.
Just before the season was about to begin though a lot of teams were affected by COVID the most affected by it being one of the northern teams as Tigres had 12 people come out with a positive test result that made league officials have to postpone their first match-up versus Santos Laguna to a later date.
Other teams that were also affected by positive COVID results were Rayados, America, San Luis, Chivas, Leon, Cruz Azul and Toluca. Los Diablos Rojos were the 2nd team to have many infected players and staff that their first match against Pumas that was scheduled for Sunday have been postponed for one day and will now be played on Monday.
Unfortunately positive COVID cases will continue to affect Liga MX teams and leagues and sports alike. Up to now there has been rumors and suggestions of putting the league on a 2-3 week pause to let cases go down once again.
Coaches like Santiago Solari, head coach of Club America and others have voiced their opinion on this matter. Solari in an interview to ESPN said, “We’ve come into the new season with hope, renewed energy, and anxious to start and enjoy football, a passionate sport that hopefully does not have to go on pause for cases of COVID-19.”
We will see how COVID continues to affect Liga MX the next couple of weeks and if there continues to be rumors of a pause for the Liga MX.
