Cruz Azul beats Chivas 2-0 and is back in the top 4

Cruz Azul returned to the futbol fields, and in what way! A week after their last match, they traveled to the city of Guadalajara to face Chivas on matchday 15 of the 2020 Guard1anes tournament. La Maquina Celeste took the victory by a score of two-zero. Showing improved gameplay compared to last week’s match, with a penalty scored by Jonathan Rodríguez at the 40th minute. Cruz Azul tacked on another goal in the 92nd minute to put the exclamation point on this game. La Maquina added three points returned to the path of victory.

A very close and tight match in its first passages. The team showed a new face; the players were more dynamic and participatory and with many shots on target, unlike what they showed in the previous three games.

Furthermore, Luis Romo, Yoshimar Yotún, and Jonathan Rodríguez had several chances to open the scoring. Still, the Chivas defense also played well this afternoon, and they knew how to stop, and all the Cruz Azul attacks.

Until the 37th minute, the whistling Erick Yair Miranda charged the maximum penalty for La Maquina. After a foul by Jesús Sánchez on Cabecita on the edge of the area, he stopped the game and checked in the VAR to verify it if Cruz Azul would be awarded a penalty kick. In the  40th minute, Cabecita put Cruz Azul ahead 1-0.

At half-time, they left with the momentary triumph in favor of the Machine that was superior in the last minutes of the first half and trusting that they could keep the goal at zero and expand their advantage.

However, in the second half, Cruz Azul returned to the field with some issues as their gameplay appeared to have dropped some. . Yoshimar Yotún and Adrián Aldrete were having issues covering the left side of the field. Chivas began to press much more, and Robert Dante Siboldi made the first change just after 80 minutes when he took Maguito out and allowed Roberto Alvarado to settle the defense down. Cabecita would once again show why he is the most important player for La Maquina, as in the 92nd minute, he scored to put Cruz Azul up by a score of 2-0. That was the dagger for the team from Mexico City over Chivas. With this victory, Sobildi’s team sits in 2nd place of the Liga MX table, and Guadalajara remains in 8th place as a wild card team.
