Cruz Azul crucifies Las Águilas, & Chivas cruise over Mazatlán F.C.
America v.s. Cruz Azul
La Maquina Celeste del Cruz Azul completed their sweep of Group B in the Copa por México tournament by routing Las Aguilas del America 4-1 at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario.
Cruz Azul went down in the scoreboard via a marvelous goal from Sebastián Córdova, but La Maquina scored four unanswered goals as they went on to claim the top spot of their group.
Club America will now have to wait for Pumas and Toluca to complete their match to see if they will move on to the next round of the tournament as they currently hold a two-goal differential advantage. If UNAM beats Toluca by three or more goals, Las Aguilas will kiss the competition goodbye.
Chivas v.s. Mazatlán F.C.
Las Chivas del Guadalajara took care of business and clinched a spot in the semifinals of the Copa por México event. Guadalajara dominated the team from Sinaloa by scoring three goals. Two from J.J. Macias and the other by Canelo Angulo.
Macias continues to impress, and if he continues to perform, it’s unlikely that we will see him in Liga MX beyond this upcoming season.
Mazatlán F.C. made history as Fernando Aristeguieta scored the first goal ever in the history of the new franchise. The goal came in the 83rd minute of the game, but it was not enough to salvage a positive result.
Chivas is sitting at the top of Group A but will have to wait for the outcome of Atlas v.s. Tigres to find out if they will be playing La Maquina or the second-placed team, which could be America or Pumas. A win by Tigres will guarantee a Chivas v.s. Cruz Azul matchup, but anything less will keep Guadalajara at the top of the group.
