CUAUHTEMOC BLANCO SUGGESTS BIELSA AS EL TRI’S NEXT MANAGER
Cuauhtemoc Blanco was recently quoted as saying he would love to see Marcelo Bielsa leading El Tri. This is one of the few times, where I agree with the America icon.
El Loco recently parted way with Leeds United after getting the historic English club back to the Premier League and resurrecting the club. Now, El Loco is looking for a new challenge, and according to El Cuauh, El Tri should be his next destination.
“Me encantaria que estuviera (Marcelo) Bielsa para la Seleccion Mexicana, yo siempre lo he propuesto, se me hace uno de los mejores entrenadores. Me toco estar con el, si es un proco estricto pero a final de cuentas es un apasionado del futbol,” stated Blanco. Cuau went on to state that El Tri players lack a joy of playing as well.
But is Cuauhtemoc right? Yes…yes he is. As his nickname states, El Loco is a very particular coach, but he is one of the most respected managers out there. Stories about El Loco’s eccentricity are abundant. His latest, maybe exactly what some Mexican players need.
After arriving in Leeds, he asked how many hours of work it took the average fan to buy a ticket to a game. The answer given to him was three. And that was it; he then made his squad pick up litter from around the training ground for three hours to teach the players a lesson in appreciating the hard work their fans put in just to be able to support them on a Saturday.
Awesome story aside, he is an elite coach. Many elite coaches say Bielsa is a huge inspiration for them, including Pep Guardiola. He is credited with ushering in Chile’s Golden age, setting the foundation for a squad that won back-to-back Copa America Championships. He gave young players an opportunity to shine at the national team level.
Bielsa may be exactly what El Tri needs, to FINALLY go through their generational transition. After the 2022 World Cup, Mexico will need to look for alternatives in key positions. El Loco may be the man to identify young talents and allow them playtime at the National level.
The only issue will be that Bielsa is a no-nonsense coach who does things his way. Unfortunately, the FMF is notorious for forcing players onto the National team and making it clear which players need to play. Bielsa will not tolerate any of this and will abandon the job if not allowed to work. Just ask Lazio and Lille.
