DATA ANALYTICS PREDICTS APERTURA 2021
Liga MX will be kicking off its new season tonight as America visits Queretaro. With ETO’s new Fantasy League about to kick off as well, I wondered whether analytics can correctly predict the outcome of this tournament. So, today, I present who the numbers say will be the top team of the regular season, and the chances those teams have of winning it all. Without further ado, here is how the tournament will turn out according to the numbers.

As you can see, the data has Rayados, Tigres, Cruz Azul, and America as the top four teams, and the 1st round of the playoffs as Santos vs Puebla, Atlas vs Xolos, Chivas vs Pumas, and Pachuca vs Leon.
Although I believe in data analysis, these numbers are a little hard to believe, Tigres is without Tuca, and incoming manager Piojo Herrera’s style may not mesh well with Tigres players. I also believe the rebuilt Bravos team with the aforementioned Tuca at the helm will be fighting for a Liguilla spot. I also have Toluca finishing in the Top 10.
