Diablos Win, Lavolpe Safe For One More Week
Toluca got their first win of the season defeating Los Xolos 2-0, however, even with the win Lavolpe’s men put forth a lackluster effort that did not convince the crowd at La Bombonera.
Toluca got on the board early via own goal in the 1st minute of the game. Felipe Pardo sent a cross from the right-wing, the ball found its way into the box and was deflected into the goal by Diego Braghieri.
The match slowed down with neither team really taking control of the game, nor creating any danger at either goal. VAR made an appearance in this game and resulted in a red card being shown to Camilo Sanvezzo in the 60th minute, leaving the team from Tijuana with 10-men.
Los Diablos were able to put the game away 17 minutes later off a set-piece play. Pardo again crossed the ball of a foul into the box, and Alexis Canelo was able to anticipate a diving Manuel Lajud to deflect the ball into the goal.
The match gives Lavolpe a little breathing room ahead of their mid-week matchup when they visit Los Rayos del Necaxa. The loss makes it three losses in the last four games for Xolos, who will look to bounce back when they host Cruz Azul mid-week.
