El Tri cruises past Guatemala at Estadio Azteca

The Mexican National soccer team played soccer for the first time since November of last year and took care of business by defeating their southern border neighbors 3-0 at home.

Henry Martin opened up the score in the sixth minute of the game to set the tone for the Mexicans. The Club America connection of Sebastian Cordova and Martin allowed for El Tri to go on top thanks to an excellent cross from Cordova to his fellow Aguila teammate.

The Mexican was just getting started, and in the 28th minute, it was Orbelin Pineda’s turn. Uriel Antuna showed off some of the same blazing speed he displayed in last year’s Gold Cup and was able to set up a precise cross to Pineda which the Cruz Azul player would tap into the goal.

Less than ten minutes later, Tata’s men would find the back of the net one more time. Another power move, followed by a cross would lead to another goal. This time it was Jesus Gallardo who would set up Cordova and made things 3-0 in favor of the home squad.

The three goals scored were executed in a very similar fashion with a player attacking the side of the field, followed by a cross that would find a wide-open man. This tactic showed the Chapin’s woeful defense as they allowed Mexico to take a commanding 3-0 lead and the eventual result. Tata Martino did let most players step on the pitch, as he made six substitutions; however, players like JJ Macias and Santiago Gimenez did not play. We will have to wait to see Little Chaco make his debut as he will not be traveling with the team to the Netherlands, where they are scheduled to take on Holland next Wednesday.

Speaking of the convocados, here is the list of players that will be with Mexico in the Netherlands.
