El TRI’s and Tata’s new dilemma; CH14 or RJ9 at the top?

A new era for the Mexican National team began this past fecha FIFA, with two friendlies against the national teams from Chile and Paraguay. El Tri dominated these two games and defeated both teams 3-1 and 4-2 respectively.

With this new era comes a new dilemma for new head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino, who will be his striker of choice for the next Gold Cup; Chicharito or Raul Jimenez?

Both players are enjoying success with their respective clubs and are playing in one of the most robust and more competitive leagues in the world, the English Premier League.

The Premier League seems to fit for both players, Chicharito who plays for West Ham United, has overcome a tough start to his season, between illness and injuries, he got very few minutes of playing time. However, the Little Pea has shown improvement towards the end of the season scoring three goals in the last five games. He has now tallied seven goals, and one assist in 22 matches for the season.

On the other hand, you have Raul Jimenez who has had a terrific first season with the Wolverhampton Wanderers. Jimenez has played every single game in league with the Wolves and has scored 12 goals and has dished out six assists in 30 games played. He also has been a critical player for the Wolves as they positioned themselves in the 7th place of the league, in their first season after their promotion from The Championship.

Both players were called to the Mexican team by Tata for the past two games. They did not disappoint, and only made Martino’s decision to pick his team’s striker even tougher.

Jimenez’ turn came first against Chile. He played 75 minutes and scored a goal by penalty kick, in the 3-1 victory. RJ9 didn’t see any action versus Paraguay, but that probably was because Martino wanted to scout other players.Chicharito saw action in both games.

In the first, he substituted Jimenez against Chile and played the last 15. He scored a goal by deflection but didn’t count because of an off-sides call. Hernandez started the match against Paraguay and had a great game. He scored a goal and contributed in another. His 51st goal helped increase his record as the all-time leading scorer with the Mexican National team.It is a tough decision to make for Tata.

So if you were in his place, who would you pick? Raul “, Mr. all-terrain” Jimenez with his youth and strength, or the experienced Javier “Speedy Gonzalez” Chicharito. Then again, who says both can’t play together? Tata, the choice is yours to make.
