ETO Top 10: El Tri Penalty Takers

Raul Jimenez has become a reliable penalty kick taker in his career and recently scored again from the spot for Wolves. When you think El Tri and penalties both that many great thoughts come to mind, but we have had some great penalty takers.

With that in mind, here are El Tri Online’s Top 10 Penalty Takers.

10. Ramon ” Ramoncito” Morales

While mostly known for his great freekicks, see Copa America 2004 vs. Argentina, he was also a very reliable penalty executioner for El Tri.

9. Jaime “Jimmy” Lozano

El Jimmy scored great goals for El Tri from different spots on the pitch, and when called upon, he also delivered fro los once pasos.

8. Manuel Negrete

The first thing that comes to El Tri fan’s mind when you think Negrete is the World Cup goal vs. Bulgaria, yet, Manuel was also lethal from the penalty spot.

7. Gonzalo “Gonzo” Pineda

Gonzo didn’t take many kicks from the spot, but when he did, they were spectacular. The most memorable is his Panenka vs. Argentina.

6. Hugo “Macho” Sanchez

Similarly, when you think Hugo, you don’t reminisce about his penalty-taking abilities, you think Chilenas. Nonetheless, El Macho was very accurate from that spot, so much so, that his controversial exclusion from the penalty kick series vs. Bulgaria at the 94 World Cup remains a heated topic to this day.

5. Claudio “Emperador” Suarez

Claudio will be most remembered for the calm and professionalism he brought to the backlines of both El Tri and Chivas. El Emperador brought those qualities to his penalty kicks as well.

4. Alberto “El Beto” Garcia Aspe

Cool and calm are not words usually associated with El Beto, but that’s what he brought to the table when taking penalties. Garcia Aspe often delivered from the spot, especially during his time in the Copa America tournaments.

3. Raul Jimenez

Jimenez has been clutch from the spot, whether it be with America, El Tri, and now Wolves. Jimenez has altered his style to adapt to each kick and has delivered on most occasions.

2. Benjamin ” Maestro” Galindo

Galindo is an all-time great that not only defined an era in Liga MX but was vital in the Selecciones while on its roster. Again, more known for his free-kicks, El Maestro was impeccable taking penalties for El Tri.

1.Cuauhtemoc Blanco

The best penalty kick taker of all time not only for El Tri but in the futbol world, El Cuau’s 97.26% efficiency from the spot speaks for itself. Mexico fans will surely remember his goal from the spot against France in the 2010 Worl Cup.
