ETO TOP 10: Extranjeros With The Most Games in Liga MX
Ruben Sambueza recently played his 400th game in Liga MX, a Toluca victory over Pumas on Sunday. With this milestone in mind, our stats team got to work and came up with the 10 Extranjeros with the most games in LIga MX. For this list we only included Liga MX, Liguilla, and Campeón de Campeones games.
10. Jose Maria Basanta-329
Basanta reached this mark during two stints with Monterrey, after a brief stint with Fiorentina before retiring in 2020.
9. Darwin Quintero-332
The current Houston Dynamo player totaled 332 games in his time with Santos and America before traveling north to the MLS.
8. Daniel Luduena-337
La Hachita played in 337 games on his way to two Liga MX Championships. He played with Tecos, Santos, Pachuca and Pumas.
7. Javier Muñoz Mustafa-347
The Argentinian defender reached 347 games playing for Santos, Atlante, Pachuca, Leon, San Luis, and Chiapas.
6. Luis Gabriel Rey-358
El Kanguro played for six team in Liga MX to reach the 358 game mark, he had stints with Atlante, Morelia, Pachuca, Chiapas, America, and Puebla.
5. Darío Veron-370
El Hechicero played his 370 games for UNAM, winning four Liga MX Titles and become an iconic player at CU.
4.Federico Vilar 381
Vilar played for four teams in Mexico accumulating 381 games in his time with Atlante, Morelia, Atlas, and Tijuana. He retired during his time with Xolos.
3. Rubens Sambueza-400
Sambu recently reached this milestone and may move up the list as he continues to put in quality performances. He has played for six teams, UNAM, Estudiantes, America, Toluca, Leon, and Pachuca in his time in Liga MX.
2. Oswaldo Martínez-433
Martinez debuted in Liga MX in 2008 and played until 2020 for six team, Monterrey, Atlante, America, Santos, Atlas, and Puebla, totasling 433 games.
1.Rodrigo Ruiz- 638
El Pony is not only the leading assist man for Liga MX, he is also the extranjero with the most games played. He split his time between six teams, Puebla, Toros Neza, Santos, Tecos, and Veracruz.
