ETO Top 10: Liga MX All-time Leading Goleadores
With his two goals against Chivas, Andre Pierre-Gignac has scored 136 goals in his time in Liga MX. But, where does this rank all-time? Nowhere near the top 10. Today ETO looks at Liga MX’s best net rippers.
10. Sergio Lira -191 Goals
El Tamiahuero played on six different Liga MX teams but made his mark with Tampico-Madero. He won the Campeon de Goleo three times during his career.
9. Carlos Eloir Perucci- 199 Goals
Perucci was a Brazilian striker that debuted for Club de Futbol Laguna in 1972. Perucci amassed his goal total in 13 seasons in Mexico.
8. Adalberto Lopez- 201 Goals
El Dumbo was the first great goal scored in Liga MX. Lopez officially won five titulos de goleo, but a review, later on, found he was mistakenly given a goal during his time in Chivas that would strip him of the title. El Dumbo was an integral part of giving Atlas their only league title.
7. Luis Roberto Alvez “Zague”- 209
Zague played with three Liga MX teams having two different stints with America and Atlante and one with Necaxa. Zague not only scored for the club but El Tri as well, setting a record with his 11 goals in the 1993 Gold Cup.
6. Osvaldo Castro- 214 Goals
Pata Bendita was a Chilean striker that came to Liga MX with America. He then moved to Club Jalisco where he did most of his damage scoring 91 goals in his time there.
5. Horacio Casarin- 238 Goals
Casarin debuted for Necaxa at the young age of 17. He played for a total of seven teams in Liga MX and spent two years playing in Barcelona. Casarin was a star on and off the pitch starring in the movie Los Hijos de Don Venacio. A curious anecdote states that after scoring an early goal against Asturias, he was fouled relentlessly until he was subbed off, in retaliation, Necaxa fans burned down the wooden stadium after the game.
4. Jose Saturnino Cardozo- 249 Goals
EL Diablo Mayor spent his full Liga MX career with Toluca playing in 332 games for Los Diablos. Cardozo won the Campeon de Goleo four times highlighted by his 36 goals in 25 matches in the 2002 Apertura.
3. Jared Borgetti- 252
El Zorro del Desierto was prolific not only for the club but the country as well. El Tri’s 2nd all-time leading scorer played for 10 teams in Liga MX and had a brief stint in England and Saudia Arabia. but is remembered for his time with Santos. 2. Carlos Hermosillo- 294 Goals
Hermosillo debuted for America in 1983 and played with six teams in Liga MX and had a brief pass in the Belgian League as well as the LA Galaxy in the MLS. El Grandote de Cerro Azul is most remembered for his time in Cruz Azul.
1. Evanivaldo Castro Silva “Cabinho”
Cabinho debuted in Liga MX in July 1974 with UNAM and began his devastation of defenses early. The Corporal played for four teams in the league with the majority of his goals coming in his time in CU and Atlante. Cabinho played a total of 415 games scoring 312 goals in Mexico, ending his career with an astonishing average of 0.75 goals per game.
