ETO Top 10: Most Expensive Mexican Players

With the transfer window in full effect, ETO takes a look at the most expensive Mexican players.

10. Roberto Alvarado- $8.25 Million

The Cruz Azul youngster was having a good season before the COVID cancellation, as has kept his form in the GNP Copa and the restart of the season. At just 21 he’s already a regular in Tata Martino’s Tri. 

9. Edson Alvarez- 8.80 Million

Edson has had a rollercoaster year at Ajax. While on the pitch he has performed after a few bumpy spells, his off the field issues have not gone well. Alvarez’s family has not been able to obtain a Visa for the Netherlands which means they are currently living in England, leaving Edson to travel back and forth to see them. 

8. Rodolfo Pizarro- $8.80 Million

Inter Miami’s Designated Player’s value has dropped since his move to the club earlier this season. Pizarro has been a bright spot in the games he has participated in, however, his team hasn’t fared as well. Once the MLS season renews, look for Pizarro to lift Miami and his value before seasons end.

7. Nestor Araujo- $9.90 Million

Araujo was a solid contributor for Celta de Vigo, helping his team narrowly avoid relegation. He was involved in 34 of Celta’s 38 matches raising his form and value along the way. Nestor’s value jumped by $2 million since the restart and end of La Liga’s season.

6. J.J. Macias- $11 Million

Mexico’s hope for the future had a good GNP Tournament raising his value in the process, EL Rebano’s early struggles in the new tournament haven’t had an effect on the youngster’s value and rumors are swirling about a possible jump to Europe.

5. Carlos Vela- $13.20 Million

The face of the MLS did not participate in the MLS is back tournament but remains remains the league’s top player. While Vela has stated he is comfortable in MLS if the right suitor comes along don’t doubt a move might be in the books.

4. Hector Herrera- $17.60 million

HH’s value has severely dropped since joining Atletico. The midfielder has not been able to find a steady role or position in El Cholos side spitting time between CM, CDM, and RM. Herrera might need a move away to bolster his playing time and market value.

3. Jesus Corona- $22.00 Million

The pandemic hit Tecatito’s value hard dropping it about $5 million since late December. However, since the restart, his form has been outstanding and helped Porto secure the league title. Currently, transfer rumors have Tecatito migrating to England. 

2. Hirving Lozano- $30.8 Million

Perhaps no player in the world was more affected by an ill-timed move than Lozano. Since joining Napoli, El Chucky’s value has dropped about $15 million. Hirving is in desperate need of a move but his price tag might keep him in Gattusso’s team long term. Recent rumors have Lozano’s future in England as well, will a move to the Premier league benefit Chucky?Raul

  1. Jimenez- $44.00 Million

What a difference a season makes. Jimenez took the Premier League by storm this season and not even the pandemic could cool him off. While El Lobo’s value is at $44 million, Wolves are reported to have placed a $100 million price tag on him, hoping to keep the Mexican striker. That price has not deferred interest from big clubs though, with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid upping their interest.
