ETO Top 10: Top Liguilla Goal Scorers All-time
With the third round of the Liga MX Liguilla about to begin, today we take a look at the Top 10 Goal Scorers in Liguilla history.
10. Adolfo Bautista 19 goals:
El Bofo had many great Liguilla moments, most memorable are his goals to help Chivas reach their 11th title.
9. Luis Garcia 20 goals:
El Dr. was a dangerous striker, as shown by his goal tally, unfortunately, he was only crowned champion once in his career in Liga MX.
8.Benjamin Galindo 21 goals:
El Maestro is one of two midfielders to make this list, his 21 goals contributed to his four Liga Mx Titles.
7. Evanivaldo Castro 23 goals:
Cabinho is Liga MX’s all-time leading scorer with 23 of those goals coming in liguillas.
6.Luis Roberto Alves 25 goals:
Zague was a goal-scoring machine not only for club, but country, his 25 goals in Liguilla’s are a testament to that.
5. Carlos Hermosillo 25 Goals:
El Grandote de Cerro Azul was the man that gave Cruz Azul their last title, scoring that infamous penalty after getting brutally kicked by Comizzo.
4. André -Pierre Gignac 25 goals:
Gignac is the only active player on the list and had scored two goals this postseason passing Cabinho, but will have to wait to move up the list.
3.Alberto Garcia Aspe 28 goals:
El Beto is the other midfield player to be on this list. Among his 28 Liguilla goals are two from that thrilling 5-4 win against Santos in 2001.
2. Jared Borgetti 41 goals:
El Zorro del Desierto was a lethal attacker in Liguillas, especially during his time at Santos. One of the best if not the best headers of the ball Liga MX has seen.
1.Jose Saturnino Cardozo 43 Goals:
El Diablo Mayor was a nightmare for Liga MX defenses during league play but found a new level during the liguilla, particularly against America ( see below) Cardozo’s 43 goals in liguillas resulted in five championships while at Toluca.
