EUGENIO PIZZUTO’S EUROPEAN ESCAPADE ENDS BEFORE IT CAN BEGIN

Reigning Ligue 1 champion Lille announced the termination of Eugenio Pizzuto’s contract earlier today. The announcement brings Pizzuto’s European stint to an abrupt end before he could debut for the first team.

NO DEBUT, NO MINUTES

Pizzuto signed for Lille on August 1, 2020, on a free transfer just seven months after making his Liga MX debut. Unfortunately, he never made it to the field with Lille’s first team, he did, however, make it to the bench on nine occasions, but never made it to the pitch.

He did play for Lille II in the National 3 League, subbing in in the 58th minute of a 3-1 victory over Maubeuge.

Since then, injuries and a case of COVID-19 have hindered his opportunities with Lille.

ROLLERCOASTER CAREER

Pizzuto’s career seemed to be on the fast track since breaking into the scene during the FIFA U-17 in 2019. At that tournament, he captained the Mexican national squad to a controversial runner-up finish. During that tournament, he won the Bronze Ball and was named to the tournament’s Best XI.

He then made his debut with Pachuca’s first team in January 2020 in a Copa MX clash against Venados. He then made his Liga MX debut four days later. That debut was was short-lived, as just nine minutes in, he suffered a gruesome injury.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR PIZZUTO

At the time of writing, no additional information was available in regards to Pizzuto’s next team. Rumors have indicated Eugenio will return to Pachuca or sign with a squad in the Portuguese Primeira Liga or the Eredivisie in the Netherlands, but nothing has concrete has been announced. Fortunately for him, he is only 19 and has plenty of time to re-establish himself in whichever league he winds up in.
