FIFA Deny Monterrey’s Complaint Over Pizarro Transfer
Inter Miami got their 1st win today, unfortunately for them it wasn’t on the field. FIFA denied Monterrey’s claim that there was any wrong doing in Inter Miami’s acquisition of Rodolfo Pizarro earlier this year.
Los Rayados launched the complaint February 15th, after Pizarro admitted that Inter Miami Owner, David Beckham had contactacted him via video call while Pizarro was still under contract, influencing his decision to not sign an extension with Monterrey, allowing Miami to pay his release clause and not the sum Monterrey was asking for. Los Regio’s Club Director, Dulio Davino said in his complaint that whether Beckahm was part of the board or not, such contact was forbidden under FIFA’s Rules on the Statute and Transfer of Players Article 17(5).
However, earlier today FIFA rejected Monterry’s claim against Beckham. Davino stated that he would meet with his legal team to discuss the teams options moving forward and indicated that appealing the decision to the TAS was an option being talked about.
Pizarro’s move to Miami was seen by many as a desperation signing by Beckham who had failed to sign any big name stars to his team. As for Pizarro, he stated his wish to try his luck in Europe after Monterrey’s championship win. However, it appeared that Los Rayados had refused offers from European clubs for Pizarro stating their valuation of the Mexican International too low.Pizarro is on the record saying he believed a dream move to Europe could be simpler playing in the MLS thean Liga MX.
Pizarro’s time in the MLS hasn’t been easy with the team still looking for their 1st win and having been eliminated from the MLS is Back Tournament. Miami’s number 10 has only scored two goals in seven games, clearly not what he or the club expected.
Did Pizarro make the right move or is it too early to tell?
