Gallos Continue Their Unbeaten Streak Against La Maquina
Cruz Azul looked for their first three points of this season, while Los Gallos Blancos of Querétaro sought to continue their unbeaten streak. Both teams had a lot to prove and came into the match in good form. Thanks to a dominant display of technique and execution, Luis Romo and his Gallos put the rest of the league on notice after a dominant 3-0 victory.
Orbelín Pineda and Los Cementeros started the match with more possession and early attempts at the goal. A few minutes in, Los Gallos settled in and brought balance back to the game thanks to Fabián Castillo and crew. Both clubs took turns developing plays and disruptions in front of their opponent’s nets.
In the 18th minute of the match, Luis Romo scored by taking on two Cementero defenders and made a Messi-like play by outrunning and outmaneuvering them. Luis Romo, unlike Tony Romo (no relation), did not choke under pressure and almost scored a brace in the 33rd minute by striking the ball in La Maquina’s crossbar off a set play.
Both teams made their first substitutions due to injury, as the chess match between both coaches developed in the first half. Down by the minimum score and looking for answers, skipper Pedro Caixinha and his Cementeros went into the locker room down in the half.
The second half did not disappoint as both teams came out firing on all cylinders. Like the beginning of the first half, both teams shared moments of brilliance and danger.
With icy veins, Romo proved he was not done and knocked down his brace during the 72nd minute of the competition. The Maquina defense did not have an answer as Romo and his Gallos put on the pressure and opened the field.
Defender Jair Pereira scored the third goal, thanks to a corner kick in the 73rd minute, making it a demanding 3-0 lead.
Following aggressive plays and VAR review, red cards were awarded to both George Corral from Querétaro and Jonathan Rodríguez from Cruz Azul within a few minutes of each other.
The game ended in a Gallo’s dominant win over a struggling Cruz Azul. Los Gallos remain unbeaten, while Los Cementeros remain winless this season. Next week, the Gallo’s will continue their unbeaten streak against Liga MX opponents, Pachuca, while Los Cementeros will fight for their first win against Juárez.
