GOLD CUP 2021 MONEY LINES, PROP BETS AND PICKS
With the Gold Cup set to kick off this weekend, today I will take a look at the money lines for the tournament and some picks for the 1st round of the tournament.
Teams to Win it All
It’s no surprise that Mexico is the heavy favorite to win this edition of the tournament. El Tri is looking to remind everyone who el Gigante de Concacaf is, and will need a dominant performance to do so. At +115, this is a solid bet to more than double your wager.
After Mexico we have the USA@+160, however, the USA will field a team mostly made up of MLS talent and has serious holes throughout, this bet is only for the blind USA loyalists.
Costa Rica @+1400 and Canada @+1700 trail the USA in the money lines. Costa Rica, though, has a debuting Head Coach and is without Keylor Navas, hence their high line. Canada, on the other hand, will field perhaps the best player in the tournament, Alphonso Davies, and will look to shock the region. A small bet of $20 will payout $360 if Canada pulls it off.
Qatar rounds out the Top 5 @+1700. They are the enigma of this tournament, to say the least. They shockingly beat Japan to win the AFC in 2019, but haven’t shown much in recent friendlies. Just like Canada, a $20 bet may go a long way if you believe in this squad.
Group Finishing Position
For this tournament, I will introduce another prop bet, group finishing position. In this bet, you can wager on who will win the group and who will finish in the top two.
Group A
Now, again, Group A should be dominated by Mexico and their -1000 Money line says as much. An interesting bet here, and my pick will be Curacao @+125 to finish in the top two. (While my original pick was Curacao as an underdog, unfortunately due to a COVID outbreak, and the replacement of the team with Guatemala, I must replace that pick for El Salvador @+100)
Group B
The USA squad is the favorite to win the group @-250, but as I mentioned earlier, this squad has some glaring holes, and Greg Berhalter will have to coach this team-up. On the other hand, Canada @+200 is an interesting option for a good payout and my pick to win the group.
Group C
Costa Rica is the favorite to win this group @-167, nonetheless, not having Navas and with a debuting Head Coach, taking Jamaica @+120 is interesting, to say the least. Suriname @+600 to make the top two is my surprise pick for this group though. With a number of dual-nationals on the squad, they may be this year’s dark horse.
Group D
Qatar is favored to top this group @+120, with Honduras @+175 and Panama @+200 not far behind. This group is interesting because all teams have a positive money line to win the group, but only Grenada is positive to finish top two. Qatar should come out on top in this group of “death” and is a solid way to get a good payday ahead of the knockout rounds.
This tournament will be a great opportunity to look at different bets and options that are available and a good way to get a good pot going for the knockout rounds.
