GOLD CUP 2021 TOP TEN MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS
The 2021 edition of the Gold Cup will kick off this Saturday and while the region gets mocked for its lack of powerhouse squads, it will be stocked with talent from European club teams. Here is a look at the Top Ten Most Expensive players of the 2021 Gold Cup.
10. Nestor Araujo-CB- Mexico $7.7 million
Araujo has unmovable from Celta’s backline playing in 33 of their 38 La Liga Games. Araujo will anchor El Tri’s defense during this Gold Cup.
9. Orbelin Pineda- CM- Mexico $8.25 million
Pineda was a vital part of Cruz Azul breaking their championship drought and will look to carry over his good form for El Tri during this tournament.
8. Alan Pulido-FW-Mexico $9.90 million
Puligol has lived up to that nickname this year, scoring six times in 11 games for Sporting FC in the current MLS season. Pulido will likely be a sub for Mexico upfront.
7. Bobby Reid- CAM- Jamaica $11 million
Reid is a dual-national that only debuted for Jamaica in 2019, since then he has scored one goal in six games. Currently a player for relegated Fulham in England he will look for a good performance to get a transfer back to an elite league.
6. Cyle Larin- LW- Canada $12.10 million
Larin comes into the Gold Cup on a hot streak scoring seven goals in Canada’s last six games. He has carried his club level to the national team, scoring 19 goals and six assists in 38 matches for the Turkish club Besiktas.
5. Edson Alvarez- CDM- Mexico $15.40 million
El Machin is coming off his most productive season since joining Ajax, being involved or on the bench for all but 2 games in this year’s Eredivisie. Alvarez will look to solidify himself in Tata Martino’s midfield.
4 Jesus Corona- RM/RW- Mexico $33.00 Million
El Tecatito has seen his stock rise in recent years with great performances for both club and country. With a rumored move to the Premier League looming his value might not have hit its peak yet.
3. Leon Bailey- RW- Jamaica $38.50 Million
The Jamaican international is a long way away from his highest value at $49.50 million but after a great bounce-back season in the Bundesliga with nine goals and nine assists in 30 games, a good tournament may shoot his value up.
2. Hirving Lozano- RW- Mexico $49.50 million
El Chucky’s value has been on the rise since hitting its low point in August 2020. With great performances for Napoli and El Tri, a great tournament may elevate Lozano’s value to 55 or 60 million.
1.Alphonso Davies- LB/LW- Canada $77.00 million
Arguably the best player in this tournament, Davies has actually seen his value decrease since last year. His performances for Bayern have still been consistent but nothing compared to his level in last year’s Champions League. Davies will look to lead his up-and-coming Canadian squad to the promised land.
