Guard1anes 2020 Coach Watch: Two More Coaches Fall Three More on Hot Seat
After only three jornadas it appears that there are already various coaches on the hot seat, and some replacements may already be in the works.
Atlas has cut ties with Rafa Puente after his latest draw versus Atletico San Luis after the team failed to show improvement. Puente had one victory, one draw, and six losses in his last eight games and his team’s performances were lackluster, to say the least. Atlas now joins Chivas in the hunt for Victor Vucetich. Te rumor mill indicate La Academia might go a unique rout and make history by apponting Marion Reimers as the leagues first female head coach. A fan comment suggesting Reimers has spread like wild fire, if La Fiel gets behind her, this may be an intriguing development in La Perla Tapatia.
Tena has been dismissed as Chivas head coach after the team’s latest loss to Puebla and lack of offensive production. Chivas has played all of its games with a depleted team due to COVID infections and injuries. Regardless, Pelaez has had enough of the teams lack of victories and goals and may look to Vucetich to right the ship. El Rey Midas has been linked to El Rebano since week one by fans, and they seem to be very close to getting their wish.
While Vucetich was said to also be the first choice for Pumas, a recent report has indicated that UNAM were unwilling to pay El Rey Midas the salary he demanded. People in UNAM have since indicated that they have narrowed their search down to two candidates, and they are both familiar faces in former standouts Jaime Lozano and Gonzalo Pineda. El Jimmy seems to be the preferred option in CU, but his current engagement with Mexico’s Olympic Squad, and the fact the pandemic has pushed the Olympics off for a year, might be the determining issue in his return to CU. Pineda on the other hand is an assistant coach for the reigning MLS Champion Seattle Sounders and would be an easier option to sign for Pumas to lure away. Recent reports indicate he has already taken himself out of the running.
El Chepo de la Torre’s job is also in jeopardy after losing to Mazatlan giving the team their first victory in the team’s history. Los Diablos have only one victory and two losses this season.
Alfonoso Sosa may have gotten a few more weeks as coach of Necaxa with the team’s latest draw against America. However, make no mistake another loss may make the guillotine fall in Aguas Calientes.
Guillermo Vazquez may also be coaching for his job as his team has only managed three wins in the past 13 games, with four draws and six losses rounding out the results.
With these vacancies and more soon to open, will Liga MX soon get an injection of fresh blood at head coach or will the dinosaur carousel continue?
