In another edition of the Cali Clasico, San Jose wins two in a row as they defeated the LA Galaxy 2-1.
With the MLS playoffs looming, its time teams start making that run to accumulate, to make it into the playoffs. The Los Angeles Galaxy are reeling for a win at this point of the season. They came into San Jose on a 3-game losing skid and were looking to turn things around before it is too late to make the playoffs. San Jose was coming off an emotional last-minute win versus LAFC. This was a crucial game for both as the Cali Clasico continued its rivalry. Andy Ríos came in clutch for the home team as he scored on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute, and the San Jose Earthquakes beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1 on Saturday night.
Sebastian Lletget scored his sixth goal of the season to give the Galaxy a 1-0 lead four minutes in when he punched in a short rebound that was ricocheted off the post on a shot by Javier “Chicharito” Hernández. Marcos Lopez tied it at the 42nd-minute mark with his first MLS goal, scoring on an uncontested shot from about 12 yards out. It was the second straight game San Jose (4W-6L-5D) rallied for an emotional victory. The Galaxy (4W-7L-3D) had wasted little time taking the lead with Sebastian Letget scoring his sixth goal of the season just four minutes after the opening kickoff. He has been consistent for Galaxy as his teammate Chicharito continues to struggle this season.
The Earthquakes have rumbled to a (4-6-5) and have won two consecutive matches, both against Los Angeles teams. The Galaxy (4-7-3) have lost their last four and are in last place in the Western Division. San Jose has totaled up 17 points, which as them 1 point behind Real Salt Lake for the last playoff spot in the West. The Earthquakes are off to Canada to face the Vancouver Whitecaps this coming Wednesday at 7:30p. Los Angeles is in dead last in the west with a total of 15 points. All is not lost for Galaxy, the difference between them and the 7thseed is only 3 points, but they need to rack up some wins very soon. They can do this at home versus Portland Timbers this coming Wednesday, October 7th.
