Inter Miami CF vs Philadelphia Union Preview

Rodolfo Pizarro and Inter Miami prepare for the second round of games of Group A in the MLS Is Back Tournament. This time they’ll be facing the Philadelphia Union at 10:30 p.m. ET. (TUDN) from the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

Inter Miami currently sit in third place of Group A after their 2-1 loss against Nani and the Orlando City on July 8th. Miami is still searching for their first official MLS win after consecutive 1 goal losses at the beginning of the campaign.

Inter Miami last faced the Philadelphia Union in February during a 2020 Suncoast Invitational match. The preseason match was closely contested but Inter Miami ultimately fell 2-1. Rodolfo Pizarro scored the team’s lone against the Union and would later become Inter Miami’s first ever scorer in regular season play against D.C. United.

Pizarro is expected to rejoin the team’s starting lineup after coming off the bench against Orlando and playing only 32 minutes.

Pizarro will look to become a factor against Philadelphia

The Mexican International started the game on the bench due to suffering a minor injury during practice. Inter Miami’s manager Diego Alonso confirmed Pizarro’s injury after the match against Orlando: “We spoke to Rodolfo before the game. He was feeling something and it was my decision that he doesn’t start the match.”

Inter Miami winger Lewis Morgan stated the following in regards to Pizarro: “Rodolfo’s quality is there for all to see. He operates very well in tight spaces and helps to open the lanes in the attack. Having someone like that playing alongside you as a winger encourages you to make runs that maybe he can see, he can find the path. We’ve got other guys on the team capable of doing that, but everyone knows Rodolfo’s quality and he helps the team massively when he’s starting. It’s great to have him back.”
