Jimenez and Wolves open up PL season with a tie against Leicester City.
The long awaited Premier League season kicked off this weekend with Raul Jimenez and his Wolverhampton teammates visiting Leicester City at King Power Stadium. Jimenez came out onto the field as a starter and would play the complete 90 minutes of the game.
The home team began the half dominating the ball and imposing their will at home. Even still, Wolves were able to get in a few shots on goal, and Jimenez had a few opportunities also, although not ones of great danger. For the second half, things evened out a bit more, with Wolves bringing the pressure on. Early on, in the 47th minute, Jimenez had another decent chance at goal, when a neat pass from Rúben Neves gave Raul enough to get off a shot. In the end, the play ended in just another opportunity that keeper Kasper Schmeichel would be able to drown out. Not too long after that however, controversy would strike the Premier League by way of VAR once again. After a corner kick scramble, Wolves defender, Leander Dendoncker, was able to blast through a rebounded ball into the back of the net for the temporary 1-0. However, VAR would have the last word on this one, as the call was quickly reversed afterwards once the referee was alerted of a dubious handball in the lead up to the play.
The rest of the game continued with the same rhythm. For the most part, Leicester City dominated in ball possession although it was Wolves who had perhaps the clearest chances at goal. In the end, both teams would split points to start off the campaign with one a piece.
Jimenez for his end had a fair game, getting in a few attempts at goal and dropping down to assist his teammates whenever possible. With the good display put on by Jimenez today, we should expect to see him in the starting lineup again next week when Wolves take on Manchester United. The goals should also be coming sooner rather than later for the Mexican star as well.
Leicester City will move on to face Christian Pulisic and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge for their share of action in Week 2.
