Jimenez leads Wolves into the next round of Europa League
Raul Jimenez scored twice in Wolverhampton’s 4-1 (6-1 aggregate) victory over the Crusaders FC in the second round of the UEFA Europa League. The Wolves move into the next round to face Pyunik (ARM).
Wolverhampton was up 2-0 on the scoreboard after a successful game back home in Molineux Stadium. Jimenez only played the last thirty-two minutes of the first leg, but today he was in the starting line up.
Things went sour for the English team as Ryan Bennett, scored an own goal in the 13th minute. Bennett tried to fight for the ball in the air with a header that unfortunately for him, went into the back of his team’s net.
While Crusaders FC was hoping for a comeback for their fans, Jimenez silenced the stadium just two minutes later. Diego Jota found the Mexican striker inside the box, then Jimenez touches the ball to score his first of the game.
In a corner, in the 38th minute, Bennett was able to redeem himself after scoring a goal of his own and give the Wolves the lead with a firm header.
As the first half was winding down, the team chemistry between Jimenez and Jota showed again. Jota handed another assist for Jimenez in the 45th minute, which allowed RJ9 to score with a superb strike, too much for the Crusader’s goalkeeper. Raul was able to play up until the 54th minute of the second half before being substituted.
Wolverhampton advanced into the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europe League against Pyunik on August 8th and 15th.
