Jimenez leads Wolves to a road victory over Torino in Europa League playoffs
Raul Jimenez and Wolverhampton cruised to a crucial first-leg victory over Italian side Torino in the Europa League playoffs. The road win puts the Wolves in an excellent position to move on to the group stage of the European tournament.
The English team took the lead in the 43rd minute after an own goal from Bremer to give them the lead heading to the lockers. Diogo Jota tacked on another one for the Wolves in the 59th minute to provide them with a comfortable 2-0 lead. Only two minutes later, the Italian squad answered with a goal from Lorenzo De Silvestri.
Just as momentum was shifting in complete favor of the Italians, Raul Jimenez made sure to close the door on that. Jimenez took the ball from near the midfield line, juked an Italian defender and followed it with a beautiful finish from inside the 18-yard box. The 3-1 lead put the Wolves ahead comfortably. They subbed Raul out of the game just four minutes later following his brilliant goal.
Torino was able to add another goal late in the game to make the final score 2-3. These two teams will meet next Thursday again at Molineaux Stadium in the second leg, with the winner moving on to the group stage of the Europa League tournament. You can expect for Raul and the Wolves to be ready as they look forward to continuing their play in European competition this season.
