Juárez defeats Pumas to join Club America in the Copa MX final
With the first finalist already decided, Pumas and Juarez were looking to join Club America in the Copa MX final. UNAM came into the game very motivated after beating Chivas in Liga MX while Juárez was coming off a defeat against Correcaminos.The game started slowly with the ball being played mostly in the midfield without any clear opportunities for either side.
The match got a little more intense towards the last 15 minutes of the first half with the away team putting pressure in the home goal but unable to put the ball in the net. The teams went to lockers with a scoreless draw amid cheers and jeers from the crowd inside Estadio Olímpico Benito Juárez.The second half was more attractive with the Mexico City team putting pressure and attacking constantly.
However, in the 46th minute, Rodrigo Gonzalez received a red card which left Pumas with ten men with still an entire half to play. UNAM’s defense was holding their ground in the back not allowing Juárez to come near their goal, but it was a matter of time before Los Bravos overtook the Pumas’ defense.
In the 64th minute, Omar Pánuco gave the home team the first goal and the first foot in the final. Even though the felines were playing with ten players, Bruno Marioni betted offensively, but it was only a matter of time before Juárez struck again. Luis Lopez gave the second goal to Los Bravos in the 84th minute to seal their victory.
With this victory, Juárez is through to the final and has a new challenge named Las Aguilas. The advantage for them is playing at home and with their people but America is a team who has fans all through Mexico. The border team is looking for their first Copa MX championship while hoping to keep America from winning Copa MX a trophy the team from Mexico City has not lifted in 43 years.
