LA Galaxy Continue Their Winning Streak, Make it 3 In A Row
After a terrible start to the season, the Los Angeles Galaxy seems to have found their footing and corrected their course, further evidenced by today’s win over the Portland Timbers. With this win, the G’s now make it three in a row. It was no secret that things were not looking suitable for the Galaxy last month, having lost two of three games in the MLS Is Back Tournament, one of which was a 6-2 loss to cross-town rival LAFC. Compounding to their woes, injuries to their star players Chicharito and Jonathan Dos Santos, made things seem bleak for the Angelinos.
However, this month of August proved to serve them well, and with today’s win, September is off to a great start. In today’s action against Western Conference rivals Portland Timbers, the Schelotto’s men were able to beat back the Portland side handily. Also of great importance, the first goal in today’s game was scored by youngster Efrain Alvarez, the first of his MLS career. After a series of passes, he was able to get a potent shot off within the box to open the scoring. More goals followed in the second half, with Cristian Pavon scoring the second of the night of an outstanding individual effort that began at midfield. Following the Argentine’s goal, the Timbers were able to get on the scoreboard as well by way of Felipe Mora; however, Galaxy midfielder Joe Corona was able to make it 3-1 son after with a powerful volley from outside the box. In the end, the Galaxy won their third game in a row by a score of 3-2.
It should be noted that in today’s game, Jonathan Dos Santos again saw action, being subbed in at the 62nd minute for Sebastian Lletget. Dos Santos is slowly recovering from a previous injury but seems to be on the right path, a welcome sight for Galaxy fans. Chicharito Hernandez, for his end, is also seemingly on his way back from injury. It will remain to be seen just what his impact will be on a team that has so far fared just fine without him. If he is to return to the field of play for the Galaxy’s next game, that impact will need to be great and immediate as their next rival will again be none other than the red-hot LAFC.
