Late Penalty Kick by Jimenez Salvages A Point For Wolves At Home
Raul Jimenez gives Wolves the late minute equalizer via penalty to salvage a point, making this their third consecutive draw of the young season.
Wolverhampton faced Burnley at home in the 3rd week of the Premier League. The Wolves came into this game after having played midweek against Torino in the first leg of the Europa League playoffs, and Jimenez wanted to duplicate his top performance in the Europa League to the Premier League and hopefully score his first goal of the season.
Things did not start off well for Jimenez and the Wolves as the visiting team scored in the 13thminute of play after a rocket-like shot by Ashley Barnes from outside the box that went past Rui Patricio’s outstretched arms, giving Burnley the early 1-0 lead.
Just three minutes later, Burnley’s Benjamin Thomas Mee sent a header that rattled Rui Patricio’s goal once more, but fortunately for the Wolves, the ball hit the goal post and did not cross the goal line.
Jimenez and the Wolves could not find their rythem throughout the entire match as Burnley continued to provide the most dangerous goal opportunities in the match. A complete difference of the Wolves team we had seen midweek against Torino.
In the final 10 minutes of play it seemed as if the Wolves finally woke up as they began to consistently attack Nick Pope’s goal. Jimenez created various opportunities for goal, the most dangerous of them in the 93rdminute when he caught a ball inside the box with his back to goal and took a quick turn-around shot that hit the goal post and was then cleared by Burnley defenders.
The Wolves big break came in the 95thminute of play as Jimenez was brought down in front of the goal and the referee awarded the Wolves a penalty kick which was confirmed by VAR. The Mexican striker was the man in charge to take the kick and Jimenez did just as he has us accustomed to, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and scoring the game tying goal to salvage a point at home for the Wolves
With this game, Raul Jimenez is now at 200 official matches played since his move to the European continent. Wolves will travel to visit the Everton toffees for next week’s action in the Premier League, but not before hosting Torino mid-week for the 2nd leg of the Europa League playoffs.
