LBM Teams Start to Materialize With Some Familiar Faces
Liga de Balompie Mexicano rosters are starting to take shape, and with high salaries, if you meet certain requirements, some familiar names are coming out of the woodwork to play.
Atletico Jalisco
Jonny Magallon did a u-turn on retirement and signed with Atletico Jalisco. Magallon is a three-time Liga MX Champion and a regular for El Tri playing 54 games and being selected for the 2010 World Cup.
Atletico Veracruz
Veracruz is starting their new adventure by signing Christian “El Hobbit” Bermudez. Bermudes is a versatile midfielder who can play the wing or forward. His best years were with Atlante and recently played with Cafetaleros in the now extinct Liga Ascenso. Veracruz also made news in signing the maligned Gustavo Matosas as a director.
Halcones de Zapopan
Zapopan has acquired Jesus Chavez and Raul Enriquez. Both players had retired in 2018 but will look to make a comeback with Los Halcones. Chavez last played for Sinaloa in 2018 and Enriquez in Juarez the same year.
Jaguares de Jalisco
Jalisco has brought in Christian Sanchez, Christian Valdez, and Saul Villalobos to the squad. Sanchez was part of the Mexican U-17 team that won the World Cup and last played in 2017. Valdez was a journeyman in Liga MX who retired in 2018 while playing with Leones Negros. Villalobos was part of the Mexico U-20 team in Columbia that placed third, but never quite made an impact in Liga MX. His last team was Salamanca in 2017.
Chapulines de Oaxaca
Oaxaca is giving a chance to Noe Maya and Richard Ruiz. Maya is a product of America’s youth system but played most of his career at San Luis. He retired with the team in 2019 but returned to take part in the Chapulines, Ruiz retired in the canceled Clausura 2020 season with Toluca but will return for the LBM season.
Will the influx of retired players affect the development of the LBM or bring people to the stands because of their familiar name?
