Leon continues its winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Puebla.
León was able to tame Puebla by beating them 2-1 in Cuauhtémoc Stadium on matchday 15 of Guard1anes 2020 season. For Los Esmeraldas, Emanuel Gigliotti and Ángel Mena scored in this game. With this victory, they remained leaders of the Liga MX standings. Nacho Ambriz’s team arrived as leader of the tournament after having beaten America 3-2 last Monday, so it was faced with the need to reaffirm what was done on matchday 14.
La Fiera arrived at Cuauhtémoc Stadium with a hot streak Leon and was the favorite to win this match. However, Puebla made many fouls to interrupt the visitors’ start and made Rodolfo Cota work on more than one occasion. Later, Leon was on full attack mode to put heavy pressure on the Camoteros defense.
The second half began with the same trend, with the Esmeraldas attacking. In the 53rd minute, Emanuel Gigliotti scored the first goal with a header after the precise cross from Osvaldo Rodríguez. Just minutes later, Ángel Mena widened the difference putting La Fiera up 2-0. Daniel Alvarez scored for Puebla in the 77th minute, but it was not enough as Leon defeated went on to defeat the home team 2-1
León remains the leader of Guard1anes 2020 with 36 points, while Puebla is 13th with 14 points. On matchday 16, Nacho Ambriz’s men will host Santos Laguna; meanwhile, Carlos Reynoso’s men will host Atlas. The playoffs are looming, and La Fiera has already clinched, but Puebla needs some help to qualify as a wild card team.
