Liga MX Countdown Day #2: Top Five Players to Watch

We’re just two days away from the start of this season’s edition of the Liga MX tournament and here are some players to keep an eye out during the 2019 Apertura. From aging stars whose future once looked bright to those looking to make a name for themselves, Liga MX has plenty of excitement to offer the fans. Today we’ll spotlight Giovanni Dos Santos, Oribe Peralta, Cesar Huerta, Sebastian Jurado, and Pollo Briseño. These are the top 5 players who could make a significant impact on their squads this season.

5. Giovani dos Santos – Club America

Club America recently introduced its most recent “bombazo” Giovani Dos Santos. After lack of playing time with LA Galaxy in MLS, Giovani and Club America came to terms on a contract for the Mexican star. His dynamic speed and physical qualities leave him with a chance to re-launch his career back to the great footballer he once was. Club America has one of the most demanding fan bases, and the expectation is for this team to become champions. Giovani must prove that he is fit to have consistency in Club America. There is no reason why this player shouldn’t be on everyone’s radar.

4. Oribe Peralta – Chivas

Former Club America player Oribe Peralta makes his return to Chivas (yes Oribe played for Chivas on a Copa Libertadores loan in 2005) and hopes to make a splash. Despite the difficulties they face, Las Chivas are familiar with the attributes of this player. Peralta has distinguished himself as one of the top Mexican footballers in the league and on the national team. His character and leadership could be a critical factor that may pull Chivas out of the relegation zone. As a player with experience, great technique and attitude, El Cepillo will give us a lot to look forward to during this Apertura.

3. Cesar Huerta – Chivas

Cesar Huerta, the young academy player, has much potential to showcase to this tournament. His ambition to become part of Tomas Boy Starting XI has prepared him for the competition this season. His debut back in 2018 gave some concern to Guadalajara’s skipper. The lack of playing time with the first team encouraged him to work harder and show he has what it takes to be a starter in this league. His performance against Argentina giants Boca Juniors wasn’t a great one, however, during the ICC match against Fiorentina he demonstrated his real ability as a footballer. He fought for every ball and showed dominance, dynamic, and passion. Huerta is someone we’re excited to see how he will play every weekend

2. Sebastian Jurado – Veracruz

One of the biggest revelations in Liga MX has to be Veracruz’, Sebastian Jurado. The young goalkeeper has shown flashes as a potential future starter for the Mexican National Team. At only 21 years old, the goalkeeper has a lot to offer. Some of his qualities are fantastic; his awareness of the game, quickness, height, and toughness are among his best attributes. These are things we will be on the lookout for during this Apertura and in the upcoming Panamerican games in Lima, Peru.

1. Antonio Briseño

Antonio “Pollo” Briseño finally gets the opportunity to wear the Club Guadalajara jersey. After a stint in Europe, El Pollo returns to Mexico with the ambition to play for the club and also gain a spot with the Mexican national team. The U17- World Cup winner in 2011, has impressive footwork and his physique puts him in place to potentially become one of the best players this season.
