Liga MX countdown day #5: Tigres Season preview; with a target on their back, can they win back-to-back?
Expectations are high for the defending champs and Liga MX teams have acquired a target for this Apertura 2019 season. Winning back-to-back titles can seem impossible for many, especially with such a competitive and demanding league, but Tigres are up for the challenge.
With strong leadership, talent and a winning attitude, Tigres have the tools to succeed. With one of the league’s best managers in Tuca Ferretti, Tigres have a proven system to help them meet their objective. Tuca’s passionate and no bull style of coaching has created a team environment that encourages the team to leverage their dynamic abilities.
However, having a winning coach is not the only piece to the puzzle; it’s also critical to have a talented and unified team. Tigres has one of the league’s strongest rosters with several key players returning during this Apertura. Gignac, fresh off his win of the Balon De Oro for best forward of the year, will lead their attack with 14 goals last year. Tigres also has a list of Mexico International players with experience and skills in Javier Aquino, Jurgen Damm, Hugo Ayala, Luis Rodriguez, and Carlos Salcedo. They’re also counting with Chilean international, Eduardo Vargas.
The team from Nuevo Leon are in a position to win it again but will have to compete with Liga MX’s top teams who are ready to knock them off their throne. Several teams have made numerous key roster changes and are positioning themselves to be worthy opponents. One of those teams is local rivals Rayados of Monterrey who are hungry for revenge after losing to Tigres in the semifinals. If Tuca Ferretti’s men can stay focused and stick to their plan they will regain their crown and become Liga MX’s undisputed champion.
