Liga MX Playoffs are set as wild card teams prepare for a shot to advance.
The regular season of Guard1anes 2020 has concluded, and the next phase is up. The wild card or repechaje round is going to commence. In this round, teams will seek the last four tickets to the Quarterfinals.
The teams already classified into the Quarterfinals are León, Pumas, América, and Cruz Azul. These four teams will await the winners of the wild card round.
El Repechaje
Monterrey, fifth in the table, will face 12th seeded, Puebla; Tigres, who is sixth, will face off with the 11th seed, Toluca; Chivas finished in seventh place will have to be measured with Necaxa, who finished tenth. Finally, Santos finished in eighth place with a resounding home victory in the last game of the regular season and will receive Pachuca, who finished ninth.
It should be remembered that this round will be a single-elimination, and the higher seeded team will host the match. Those teams are as follows Rayados, Tigres, Chivas, and Pachuca. The schedules will be defined during this week, but there will be two games on Saturday, November 21st and two on Sunday 22nd of November; these dates are after the last FIFA Date of the year ends.
Monterrey had the possibility of qualifying directly into the top 4 teams; however, they could not obtain victories on Matchday 17 and will have to settle for hosting the repechaje at home. In the regular season, they defeated Puebla 2-1 at the Gigante de Acero field.
Tigres and Toluca will determine another spot in the Quarterfinals. They met in Round 5, with Los Diablos Rojos earning the victory with a 3-2 score.
Guadalajara ran a serious risk of having to play this phase as a visitor. However, Saturday’s victory against Rayados, coupled with the defeat of the Tuzos, earned them the privilege of playing at home.
Chivas already defeated the Rayos in the regular phase by a score of 1-2, but the duel was played in Aguascalientes. Necaxa has won their last five matches, so they are on the rise and have a very high confidence level.
Santos also closed the tournament well and will receive Pachuca in what seems like the most even match in the repechaje round. On Round 14, Laguneros and Los Tuzos met with a 1-1 draw in Torreón.
