Liga MX Rankings: Week 13

The liguilla is slowly approaching and the fight for a playoff spot keeps getting interesting as each week goes by. A small difference in points separates some teams from joining la ‘Fiesta Grande’.

For now, these are the team that made it on our Liga MX rankings list.

5. Atletico San Luis

A San Luis who struggled at the start of the Apertura, is closing in on qualifying for a place in playoffs. After defeating FC Juarez 2-1, Los Potosinos have an opportunity to fight for the title since rising from the Ascenso just this year. If they do well in their last few games, we could see them in action longer than expected.

4. Tigres UANL

No one expected Tigres to put on a festival of goals in Monterrey. UANL had a dominating 4-0 victory over Santos Laguna, bringing them down from Super Leader to second place in the standings. If Tigres put in four on Santos, how many goals will they score against Veracruz this week?

3. Cruz Azul

Cruz Azul certainly had a historic game to remember in Estadio Azteca with a 5-2 triumphant matchup against America. A deserving win for ‘La Maquina’ gave them a positive look on the field and three valuable points to climb up the table. Although it looks like a difficult road, they have a chance if we see the same Cruz Azul play like last week.

2. Queretaro

Queretaro beat a disappointing Monterrey, a team that’s worth nearly three times their value. Thanks to Victor Vucetich, Los Gallos have been in good hands and have gained important victories, leading them to third place and closing in on the fight for the cup.

1. Necaxa

Without any major signings this year, Necaxa has proved that you don’t need a large budget to make it far. Currently leading in the standings, Los Rayos has become the surprise of the Apertura and will most likely be the first to qualify for playoffs. Let’s just hope they don’t break down and fail in the liguilla.
