Los Mineros Win Big At Home Against Querétaro

In front of a small crowd at Estadio Francisco Villa, the home team Mineros of Zacatecas took on the visiting Gallos Blancos of Querétaro. Both teams were looking for their first points of the Copa MX tournament. Despite numerous attempts, the Gallos could not stop the Mineros attacks and lost 2-0.

In the 24th minute, Mineros grabbed the lead off a Manuel Pérez Ruiz header. The strike came off an accurate center from Denilson Villa taking the Querétaro defense off guard.

After the half, Los Gallos Blancos turned on the afterburners and came close to the equalizer. It took the Mineros a few minutes to settle and remind themselves they were the aggressors in the first half. In the 67th minute, the second and game-winning goal came off a header from Ernesto Reyes.

Querétaro made a few last-minute attempts to come back but had no success connecting.

Los Mineros are now tied with Los Xolos de Tijuana with 3 points each in group 5, while Querétaro is at the bottom of the group with a goose egg. The next match of this group will take place on August 13th at Corregidora Stadium were Querétaro will look for redemption against Club Tijuana.
