Man vs. Machine – FIFA 21: Monterrey vs. America

Week one is in the books, and as usual, Liga MX was full of surprises. Tigres beat champions Leon, while Santos continued Cruz Azul’s misery. Pumas had a lackluster draw with Xolos, Chivas drew with Puebla, and finally, Mazatlan got an early victory beating Necaxa with fans in the stands. To say that Liga MX is unpredictable is an understatement, and predicting games is a bit of a wildcard. In a simulated game last week, FIFA 21 predicted a Tigres victory over Los Esmeraldas 3-1; while the score was wrong, the victorious team and goal differential were dead on.

Now we will put our ETO and El Mexican Soccer Podcast teams to the test and see how they fare predicting results against the FIFA 21 simulations. We will track each team member’s picks and goal differential and compare that to the FIFA 21 simulation and see who is more accurate. This week’s game of the week will be America vs. Monterrey. Both teams are coming off Matchday 1 victories, as America took down San Luis 2-1, while La Pandilla defeated Atlas 2-0. For this simulation, we updated the rosters on FIFA 21 and used the same formation and personnel each team used in their previous matchup.

America lined up in a 4-2-3-1 as follows:

Monterrey went with a 4-3-3:

With that in mind, here are this week’s picks:
FIFA 21 has Los Rayados downing Las Aguilas 3-1 with Funes Mori, Pabon, and Charlie Rodriguez scoring for Moterrey, while Emilio Sanchez scored for America.

Our team predicts:

ETO Head of Content – Joe Rodriguez: 3-1 Monterrey
ETO Contributor – Ivan Toribio: 1-1 Draw
ETO Contributor – Kevin Quintana: 2-1 Monterrey
ETO Contributor – Vincent Sanchez: 2-2 Draw
El Mexican Soccer Podcast HostHugo Bernal: 2-0 Monterrey
ETO Analyst – Edwin Cazares: 2-1 Monterrey
ETO Pundit – El Super Mojado: 3-1 Monterrey

As you can see, many Club America haters predicting Las Aguilas will be on the short-end of the stick. Let’s see how our team fares against the FIFA 21 game simulation in our version of Man vs. Machine!
