After a commanding 7-0 blowout of Cuba on Opening Day of the 2019 Gold Cup, the Mexican National Team will head out to the Rockies to face off with the Canadian National Team at Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado for what will be Match Day 2 of the Concacaf tournament. This matchup should be the toughest for both teams during the group stage, with both coming off impressive wins against their previous opponents. Canada for their part finished their game against Martinique with a 4-0 blowout.

For Mexico, Canada will be the first real test for Coach Tata Martino as this is likely to be the toughest opponent he’s faced in official competition as El Tri’s head coach. While their previous win against Cuba was impressive, it was also expected for el Tata and El Tri. However, things should be a little different when they square off against Canada, a team that has multiple players starting for teams in Europe as well as in the MLS locally. With the level of play that the United States has shown since new coach, Gregg Berhalter, took over, Canada is arguably up there with the Red, White and Blue in fighting for who is the second best team in the tournament. Even still, el Tata does not seem to be overly concerned with Canada, stating that he’ll likely continue training his men just as they’ve been doing and that he doesn’t foresee any drastic changes to his starting lineup from the game against Cuba, especially seeing the recent injuries to Moreno and Pizarro. The latter will be a game day decision, possibly making the start in place of last games star, Uriel Antuna. However, this is unlikely given that he has not yet trained fully with the team due to his ongoing injury.

In all this should make for an entertaining match between the two North American teams. Mexico is the clear favorite to win the match, but Canada won’t go down easy.
