Hererra and Atletico claim second place from group A
Being in this group was not easy for Atletico Madrid but they managed to move on as they racked up nine points. They cleared second place as Bayern Munich claimed first with 16 points. Two wins, three draws, and one loss for the Spanish team, and Hector Herrera played a part. tonight was no different as he was subbed in the 64th minute of the match where Atletico managed a two-nil win against FC Red Bull Salzburg.
Porto and Corona claim Second place from group C
Porto was not far from Manchester City as it was only a three-point difference between both teams defining the first and second place from group C. Overall Porto managed to dominate with four wins and one draw in the group stages and tonight’s two-zero win against Olympiakos solidified the Portuguese team to go into the knockout stages. Jesus Corona played today once again with the team being subbed in late at the 72nd minute.
Edson Alvarez and Ajax Eliminated from the Tournament
You read that correctly the team that made an impact in last year’s champions league tournament has been eliminated. Ajax fell to the Italian side tonight in a one-nil loss. This gave the pass to Liverpool who has 13 points and Atalanta with 11 points. Edson Alvarez did not play in tonight’s game which could have been a difference-maker during the match in the midfield.
The teams that move on will now wait for Monday, December 14th for the Round of 16 Draw to see who they will be facing next.
