Mextranjeros Split Points as Atletico and Celta Draw
Atletico de Madrid and Hector Herrera missed an opportunity to jump to the top of the table as they drew at home against Nestor Araujo and Celta Vigo.
Herrera started for Atletico but was unable to recreate his mid-week magic in which he scored in the Champions League and was subbed off in the 60th minute.
Araujo played the full game and helped anchor a Celta defense that withstood Atletico’s 20 shot offensive barrage and kept the clean sheet.
The draw is Celta’s second in the past three games, while Atletico has struggled to claim only one point of the last six after a perfect start to the season.
Atletico will hope Sevilla struggles against Real Madrid tomorrow to remain tied atop La Liga. Simeone’s men will look to get back on track mid-week when they visit Mallorca.
Araujo and Celta will look to get back to winning when they host Espanyol on Thursday.
