Monterrey defeats Cruz Azul and jump into the Top 4
Rayados de Monterrey achieved their fourth consecutive victory in Guard1anes 2020 season by defeating Cruz Azul 1-0. The host team got off to a good start in the match, from the first moments they threw themselves to the front with relentless attacks. Taking advantage and highlighted the performance of Avilés Hurtado, but the visitor was defending very well on the field and avoided giving up an early goal. Rogelio Funes Mori came close to opening the scoring in the 23rd minute when he headed in the area, but goalkeeper Jesús Corona had a timely intervention to prevent the goal from being scored.

Cruz Azul came close to equalizing when Juan Escobar headed in the area after a free-kick, but goalkeeper Hugo González was careful to deflect the ball and prevent the opponent’s goal.
Towards the final stretch of the match, both teams had dangerous attacks, but the scoreboard had a final score and with it, the Rayados took the three points by beating Cruz Azul.
This complicates things for Cruz Azul as they can punch a direct ticket to the Quarterfinals versus Pumas on the last day of the tournament or they will limp into the play Liga MX playoffs ad a wild card team.
